The American River in northern California is, I believe, one of the most beautiful bodies of water in North America. It is also one of many rivers in the US that is protected, in several locations, under the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act (WSRA). The WSRA was enacted by congress to protect rivers in the US from future development and preserve their natural flow for people to enjoy for generations to come.
