Strike Two!

This morning Barbara called Wakulla Springs State Park to see if there were any manatee’s there. It cooled down into the mid thirties last night, so we thought they may have ventured inland. She was told that they were there, but they couldn’t guarantee how long they would stay. So we jumped into our truck and took the 35 mile drive to the park. By the time we arrived, they were gone. I guess I’ll have to add them to my list of Florida’s mythical creatures. I did get some nice photos at the park. Take a look!

Lake Talquin

Yesterday, Barbara and I travelled from Wildwood, Florida to Lake Talquin and Ingram’s Marina. This is our last stop in Florida before we head north to Georgia to visit our nephews. Last night I took my camera down to the waters edge to enjoy the sunset and take some photos. It wasn’t the best sunset I’ve ever seen, but it was still enjoyable Take a look!

Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge

Today Barbara and I went in search of Manatee’s. Unfortunately, the weather was warm over the weekend, which warmed the surface water and the Manatee’s moved out into the Gulf to cooler waters. We did enjoy the Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge. The water here is supplied by the Three Sister Springs. Up to 20 million gallons of water per day flows into the refuge and then on to the Gulf of Mexico. The water here is tested monthly and has an average purity of 99.7%. However, this water is currently being looked at as a source of bottled water, which would destroy the habitat for the Manatee’s. Lets hope this doesn’t happen.

Florida Everglades

As most of you know Barbara and I recently visited the Florida Everglades. According to our guides, there’s no other place like this in the world. I believe it because I have never seen anything like it. Barbara posted several photos on Facebook the other day from the everglades so I won’t duplicate them here. Below I have posted a few photos I have taken since. Please share your thoughts.

Biscayne National Park

Last Friday Barbara and I took a boat ride in Biscayne National Park. For us, this was the best way to see the park because this park is 95% water. The tour boat that we rode on took us around the park and we then spent some time on Boca Chita Key. This was a nice, small island with a lot of very expensive boats in the small harbor.
